All participants in the 11U to 18U basketball programs must have the following items, clearly labeled for identification:
Uniform and Equipment Policy
SLAM provides uniforms and player items based on age division.
7U and 9U
7U and 9U players receive a basketball and a Jr. NBA jersey to keep.
Jr. NBA jerseys are not personalized.
11U, 13U, and 15U
11U, 13U, and 15U players receive a personalized SLAM uniform, including a jersey and shorts.
The uniform is included as part of the registration fee, and players keep their uniform at the end of the season.
Uniform costs are included in the overall registration fee and cannot be separated, deducted, or refunded.
This change helps ensure all players have a properly fitted, clean, and consistent uniform for the season. It also reduces the administrative work and replacement costs associated with tracking, collecting, cleaning, and reissuing loaned uniforms each year.
18U
Since the 18U season is much shorter than the other age divisions, 18U players are issued a loaned SLAM jersey for the season instead of receiving a personalized uniform to keep.
Loaned jerseys must be returned at the end of the season. Players who do not return a loaned jersey will not be eligible to register the following season until the jersey is returned or the replacement cost is paid.
If the player does not return the jersey and does not register the following season, the credit card on file may be charged.
Basketballs
SLAM only provides basketballs for 7U and 9U players.
All other players are responsible for bringing an appropriately sized basketball to practices and games, as follows:
Size 5 — 27.5 inches
11U Boys and Girls
Size 6 — 28.5 inches
13U Boys and Girls, 15U Girls, and 18U Girls
Size 7 — 29.5 inches
15U Boys and 18U Boys
Lost or Damaged Jerseys
Players are expected to take care of their SLAM uniform throughout the season.
If an 11U, 13U, or 15U personalized jersey is lost or damaged and needs to be replaced during the season, SLAM may provide a non-personalized replacement jersey from existing inventory for $50, subject to availability.
Replacement jerseys will not include the player’s name and will not have the same number as the original jersey.
SLAM will not order a personalized replacement jersey during the season. Replacement jerseys can only be provided from SLAM’s existing inventory.
Replacement jersey numbers are reserved for replacement inventory only and are not available for players to choose when ordering their personalized jersey.
Replacement SLAM shorts are not available.
All replacement fees must be paid before a replacement jersey is provided.
7U and 9U (Jr NBA)
Our 7U and 9U program is a co-ed introduction to team basketball for young athletes who are ready to build their skills, confidence, and love for the game.
Players will take part in weekly 60-minute sessions in St. Albert, with a focus on skill development, teamwork, and learning the fundamentals in a fun and supportive environment.
The season typically runs from mid to late September through early March, with sessions held on Saturdays. The season finishes with an end-of-year tournament for our U9 athletes, giving players the chance to celebrate their progress and compete against teams from across Edmonton.
11U to 18U Divisions
Evaluations (11U, 13U, 15U)
Evaluations take place in mid to late August or early September.
Competitive teams are only formed if registration numbers and skill levels support it. Remaining players are placed on balanced community-level teams. EYBA may reseed teams during the season based on performance to maintain competitive balance.
Season (11U, 13U, 15U)
Practices begin in mid to late September. League games run from October to February, followed by playoffs and ABA Provincials in March for qualifying Tier 1 to 4 teams.
Game Nights (11U, 13U, 15U)
For 11U, 13U, and 15U teams, team placement may change during the season at EYBA’s discretion.
Teams are reviewed after each round based on performance, including win/loss record and point differential. As a result, teams may be moved up or down between tiers. For 13U and 15U teams, this may also result in a change to scheduled game days.
All tier movement is determined by EYBA and is not within SLAM’s control. These decisions are not negotiable.
Game Venues
Games take place across Edmonton and area, including the Saville Community Sports Centre, EYBA Centre, Legacy Athletics, Buckets Basketball, and school gyms.
18U Division
There are no evaluations for U18. Coaches may form their own teams and may also be assigned players depending on registration numbers.
The program operates in two seasons:
Eligibility (ASAA Rule)
Players rostered on a high school basketball team (Junior or Senior Varsity) are not eligible for the Winter League.
ASAA states:
To be eligible for high school provincial competition in basketball, volleyball, football, cheerleading, team handball and rugby, a high school student is not permitted to play on a non-school team in the same sport during the same season.
Membership fees are annual and valid for one year from the registration date. Fees are paid directly to ABA and Canada Basketball during RAMP registration and are processed as two separate credit card transactions. These fees are not included in SLAM registration fees.
ABA and Canada Basketball membership fees are required at the time of registration including for players placed on a waitlist.
Player registration is not complete until all required fees have been paid. These fees are non-refundable.
Every St. Albert SLAM player, coach, and official is required to be an Alberta Basketball and Canada Basketball member. This annual fee provides insurance coverage, access to certified officials, and eligibility for government and fundraising programs—helping keep basketball affordable for everyone. Paid once per season, the membership also allows participation in camps and events with other sanctioned organizations at no extra cost. SLAM covers the fee for volunteer coaches.
