The 7U Jr. NBA Program is designed for young players who are new to basketball and would benefit from a fun, supportive, and less competitive environment.
This mixed-gender program focuses on basic skill development, including passing, catching, dribbling, shooting, and learning the game at an introductory level. A smaller, lighter basketball is used to help build confidence and support age-appropriate development.
Sessions are scheduled on Saturdays to help accommodate family schedules.
Each 7U player will receive a Jr. NBA jersey and basketball to keep.
Tentative Start Date: Mid to Late September
Tentative End Date: End of February / beginning of March
Tentative Location: Ronald Harvey Elementary School
Please see the updated fee schedule for the complete fee breakdown and details.
This is a co-ed program designed to introduce young athletes to basketball in a fun, supportive environment.
Players will participate in one 60-minute session each week in St. Albert. Sessions include skill development, practice activities, and small-sided games to help players build confidence and enjoy the game.
Each 9U player will receive a jersey and basketball to keep. Sessions are scheduled on Saturdays to help accommodate family schedules.
The season ends with a tournament, giving teams the opportunity to showcase their progress and play against other teams from across Edmonton.

Players will have one game per week, typically on Saturdays, and one practice per week at a gym in St. Albert.
11U games are modified to support age-appropriate development. Games are played 4-on-4 on 8.5-foot baskets.
Each game consists of two 21-minute halves with a running clock and a 3-minute halftime break. Player shifts change every 3 minutes.
The final three minutes are played using stop time. During this final shift, the head coach may choose any four eligible players, and substitutions can be made during any stoppage in play.
Evaluations are held in mid to late August to help place players on teams based on skill level. This allows teams to compete against similar-level teams from Edmonton and surrounding areas.
Games are typically played at the Saville Community Sports Centre or at school gyms in or around Edmonton on Saturdays.
Please see the updated fee schedule for the complete fee breakdown and details.
Team placement may change during the season at EYBA’s discretion.
Teams are reviewed after each round based on performance, including win/loss record and point differential. As a result, teams may be moved up or down between tiers. All tier movement is determined by EYBA and is not within SLAM’s control. These decisions are not negotiable.
Players will have one game per week, typically on a weeknight for Tier 1-3 teams or on Saturdays for Tier 4 and below. Players will also have one practice per week at a gym in St. Albert.

All participants in the 11U to 18U basketball programs must have the following items, clearly labeled for identification:
Uniform and Equipment Policy
SLAM provides uniforms and player items based on age division.
7U and 9U
7U and 9U players receive a basketball and a Jr. NBA jersey to keep.
Jr. NBA jerseys are not personalized.
11U, 13U, and 15U
11U, 13U, and 15U players receive a personalized SLAM uniform, including a jersey and shorts.
The uniform is included as part of the registration fee, and players keep their uniform at the end of the season.
Uniform costs are included in the overall registration fee and cannot be separated, deducted, or refunded.
This change helps ensure all players have a properly fitted, clean, and consistent uniform for the season. It also reduces the administrative work and replacement costs associated with tracking, collecting, cleaning, and reissuing loaned uniforms each year.
18U
Since the 18U season is much shorter than the other age divisions, 18U players are issued a loaned SLAM jersey for the season instead of receiving a personalized uniform to keep.
Loaned jerseys must be returned at the end of the season.
Players who do not return a loaned jersey will not be eligible to register the following season until the jersey is returned or the replacement cost is paid.
If the player does not return the jersey and does not register the following season, the credit card on file may be charged.
Basketballs
SLAM only provides basketballs for 7U and 9U players.
All other players are responsible for bringing an appropriately sized basketball to practices and games.
Basketball sizes are as follows:
Size 5 — 27.5 inches
11U boys and girls
Size 6 — 28.5 inches
13U boys and girls, 15U girls, and 18U girls
Size 7 — 29.5 inches
15U boys and 18U boys
Lost or Damaged Jerseys
Players are expected to take care of their SLAM uniform throughout the season.
If an 11U, 13U, or 15U personalized jersey is lost or damaged and needs to be replaced during the season, SLAM may provide a non-personalized replacement jersey from existing inventory for $50, subject to availability.
Replacement jerseys will not include the player’s name and may not have the same number as the original jersey.
SLAM will not order personalized replacement jerseys during the season. Replacement jerseys can only be provided from SLAM’s existing inventory.
Replacement jersey numbers are reserved for replacement inventory only and are not available for players to choose when ordering their personalized jersey.
Replacement SLAM shorts are not available.
All replacement fees must be paid before a replacement jersey is provided.
Merchandise
SLAM-branded merchandise will be available for purchase for a limited time early in the season. Watch for announcements with ordering details.
Evaluations for 11U, 13U, and 15U will take place in mid to late August or early September.
Players will be assessed and placed on teams that best match their skill level. This helps create balanced teams and allows players to compete against similarly skilled teams from other communities.
Tier 1/2 Teams
Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams are formed through the evaluation process. Players selected for these teams will compete in the EYBA Tier 1/2 divisions.
Specific evaluation details, including dates, times, and locations, will be posted on the SLAM website by the end of June.
Players selected for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 team will be charged an additional $35 fee through their RAMP account after team selections are confirmed. Families must pay this fee within 3 business days to confirm the player’s placement.
Unpaid fees may result in the player being removed from the Tier 1 or Tier 2 team and placed on a community team instead.
Additional team costs may apply for optional gear, equipment, skills camps, or tournaments. These costs will be determined by the coaching team, with input from parents.
